G2. This Engineered Trench for Low-level Waste

G2. This Engineered Trench for Low-level Waste was filled to capacity in March 1995 and contains more than 30,000 stacked carbon-steel boxes of waste, each box 4 feet by 4 feet by 6 feet. The site was then backfilled with dirt to form a mound, which was seeded with grasses and sloped for runoff. After this trench was closed, all trench-burial of low-level radioactive wastes at this site was stopped in favor of a new underground vault storage system. Engineered Low Level Trench 4, Solid Waste Management Burial Ground, Savannah River Site, South Carolina. 7 January 1994.
