Description
Open lectures with Ravi Gurumurthy, Rainer Salomaa and Ferdi Schüth on future European energy plans in view of the recent German decision to run down its nuclear power.
Professor Ravi Gurumurthy was appointed as Strategy Director to the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). The DECC provides the British government with the scientific background regarding future energy needs and supply.
Professor Schüth was instrumental for preparing the Leopoldina (German Academy of Sciences) report to the bundeskanzler’s Ethikkommission on the consequences of the closing of German nuclear plants. The direct effects of this decision are that the building of coal and gas fired power stations in Germany will be escalated. This will have implications for the EU climate driven energy policy.
Professor Rainer Salomaa, the head of nuclear engineering at Aalto University School of Science and Technology, Helsinki, will give his views on the consequences of the Fukushima nuclear accident for Helsinki’s energy future.
The lectures are free of charge and open to the public but registration is required for all participants. Please note that registration is binding.
